Gabby turned 16 this month and got her learner's permit last week. Part of me just wants to freeze time (how about I just always be in the car with her while she's driving for the rest of her life??), and part of me realizes how huge it is that I get to be here with her as she grows up. (Please pray for us!!) Today I wanted to post something that she said that made me smile.
A few weeks ago, I was in bed at night with my bedroom door open. Gabby’s bedroom is right across from me. She had her door open too and was talking with me about who was blowing up her phone and the conversations she was having with her friends. She had just met a new guy (let’s call him “Drew”), and she blurted out to me, “I told Drew that you pray 50 million times a day.” Her comment caught me off guard. I laughed. “I don’t think I pray 50 million times.” She came back with some sass, ready to make her point, “Yeah. Before you eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, before you eat snacks, before you go to bed. And I know you be praying in the car.” I laughed again. “How do you know that I pray in the car?” I couldn’t remember ever telling her that or praying out loud while she was with me in the car. But Gabby didn’t miss a beat. She said, “I know you be turning on your Jesus music in the car, and you be gettin’ all heart to heart with Him. Then you pray when you drop Anna off at school, saying, ‘Oh, Lord, help her to not get in any trouble today.’ I already know that’s what you do.” I just laughed again and couldn’t deny it. I'm pretty sure that I don't usually pray before I eat snacks, but still..I shook my head and smiled. "You're a pretty smart girl, Gabby."
